Overview​

Kaizen is a govtech company providing composable front-end modules for government services, with an AI harness (Blacksmith) and design system (Canopy). ​

Key Technology Insights​

Rather than rebuilding each service from scratch, Kaizen assembles them from the same reusable components, so the service building blocks behind a park permit service also power a Pentagon procurement service. Its Blacksmith AI tool reads an agency's requirements and generates a ready-configured website, with people writing under 5% of the required code. Agencies can also own the resulting software outright. ​

Industry Application​

Adoption of the platform is deepest in state and local resident services such as parks, permits and licensing, with customers including Maryland State Parks. Its federal work is more recent, spanning three projects: a Pentagon counter-drone marketplace; an AI exports portal for the Department of Commerce; and the modernisation of VA.gov, which serves 10 million users, due by November 2026. ​

Strategic Perspective​

Kaizen’s advantage is that it applies reusable software to government, plus the development speed provided by Blacksmith’s AI, and the government retains IP ownership. Currently in growth stage, its opportunity is federal expansion, as AI compresses procurement timelines.​
